Fame-ish at last

A bit windblown at the end of our walk along the Dales Way in yesterday's gales. We were recording "Ramblings" for Radio 4, with Colin and Fleur Speakman, the lovely Clare Balding and yours truly.

It was great fun to do and once we forgot about the hairy microphone it was ok - just like having a walk with mates. Clare was really natural and chatted all the time about where we were going and what we could see. She caused a bit of a stir in a cafe in Burnsall as people recognised her from the telly.

I'm SOOO excited - we'll be on at the beginning of October

Well done Chris. I often listen to Ramblings when I am driving around the country for work. I look forward to the programme.

I shall look forward to it. Will you be mentioning the jam making?

Just happened to be up early on Saturday and switched the radio on to hear this excellent programme.

I had no idea that there was a Dales High Way but now that I do I'll need to send off for the guide books and take a good look at it.

The new Harrogate spur to the start of the Dales Way now joins at Ilkley rather than Bolton Abbey. Would you consider this a reasonable way to start the Dales High Way too, or would it be a big shame to miss the first section from Saltaire to Ilkley?

Hi there - glad you enjoyed the programme. The Harrogate Dales Way link is a lovely walk at about 16 miles. It would make an excellent start to the Dales High Way and if you're from Harrogate it's right in keeping with how we first did the DHW by setting off from our own front door.
If you fancy walking the Saltaire to Ilkley section we're doing it as a guided walk on Oct 15th leaving Victoria Hall, Saltaire at 12.20. Why not join us.

That sounds good. What is the best place to check for details or changes of plan etc?

Hi there

If you go to the Friends of a Dales High Way section of the DHW website at www.daleshighway.co.uk/friends.htm there's a link on the right to the guided walk. It gives the details and any changes will be posted there.

Hope you can make it.
